Custom Freshwater Rods

Custom Freshwater Fishing Rods

Built for the Way You Fish

A good fishing rod can catch fish. A custom fishing rod is built around you—the way you fish, the techniques you use, the waters you fish, and what you expect from your equipment.

At Goose Creek Rods, every custom freshwater rod is built one at a time by hand. There’s no assembly line and no one-size-fits-all formula. From selecting the right blank to choosing guides, handle materials, reel seat and finishing details, each component is chosen with a purpose.

Whether you’re looking for a technique-specific bass rod, a sensitive crappie rod, a powerful catfish setup or simply a better all-around freshwater rod, we’ll work together to build something that fits the job.

Technique-Specific Bass Rods

Bass fishing is one area where a custom rod can really earn its keep.

A rod designed for dragging a Texas rig along the bottom shouldn’t necessarily be built like one intended for throwing a crankbait—and neither should be built like a rod intended for working a jerkbait or driving a hook home with a jig.

We can build rods specifically around techniques such as:

  • Worms, jigs and other bottom-contact presentations
  • Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits
  • Crankbaits
  • Jerkbaits
  • Topwater
  • Swimbaits and swim jigs
  • Finesse presentations
  • General-purpose casting and spinning applications

Blank power, action, length, guide train and handle configuration can all be selected around the intended use.

The result isn’t just a custom-looking rod. It’s a rod built to do a particular job well.

More Than Bass Fishing

Freshwater fishing covers a lot of territory, and so do our custom builds.

Goose Creek Rods can build spinning and casting rods for crappie, panfish, catfish, striped bass and other freshwater applications. Whether you’re looking for light tackle and sensitivity or something with enough backbone to handle big fish, the build begins with how and where you intend to fish.

That’s one of the advantages of having a rod built rather than simply choosing something off the rack.

Built One at a Time

Every Goose Creek custom rod receives the same attention to detail.

We carefully select and fit components, properly prepare guide feet, hand-wrap each guide and apply the finish in multiple controlled steps. Handles and reel seats are fitted to the blank, and every build is inspected before it leaves the shop.

You’ll also have choices in the appearance of your rod—from traditional and understated to something unmistakably your own.

But appearance comes second.

First and foremost, it’s a fishing rod—and it needs to perform.

Quality Components. No Gimmicks.

There are countless rod blanks and components available today, ranging from inexpensive production-grade parts to some of the finest components made.

We’ll help you choose components that make sense for your fishing and your budget rather than simply loading a rod with expensive parts that provide little practical benefit.

Our goal is simple: put your money where it makes a difference.

A Rod Worth Keeping

We approach custom rod building the same way we approach restoration work: with patience, attention to detail and respect for the craft.

A Goose Creek custom rod isn’t intended to be disposable fishing equipment.

It’s built to be fished.

Built to be cared for.

And, with a little luck, built well enough that someday somebody else will be fishing with it and telling the story of where it came from.
