Not every good fishing rod or reel needs to be new.
At Goose Creek Rods, we occasionally acquire quality used fishing equipment that still has plenty of life left in it. Selected rods and reels are carefully evaluated, cleaned, serviced or refurbished as needed, and tested before they’re offered for sale.
Equipment that meets our standards is offered as GCR Certified Refurbished.
It’s our way of providing anglers with good, dependable fishing equipment while giving well-made tackle a second life.
What Does “GCR Certified” Mean?
We don’t put the GCR Certified name on every used rod or reel that comes through the shop.
Each piece is individually evaluated for its condition, quality, serviceability and overall value. Depending on the equipment, the refurbishing process may include:
- Thorough cleaning
- Inspection for wear, damage and corrosion
- Replacement of worn or damaged components when practical
- Reel cleaning and lubrication as needed
- Drag and bearing inspection
- Guide, tip, grip and reel-seat inspection on fishing rods
- Cosmetic cleanup and refurbishing where appropriate
- Final function and performance testing
The exact work varies because every piece of used equipment is different.
If we aren’t comfortable putting the Goose Creek Rods name on it, we don’t sell it as GCR Certified Refurbished.
Honestly Represented
Used fishing equipment is still used equipment. It may show normal cosmetic wear, age or other signs of previous use.
We don’t try to hide that.
Our goal is to describe each item honestly, including its condition and any significant imperfections we find. We would rather tell you exactly what you’re buying than make an old piece of fishing equipment sound like something it isn’t.
Quality Used Tackle at a Fair Price
There is a lot of inexpensive fishing equipment on the market today, but inexpensive and good value aren’t always the same thing.
GCR Certified Refurbished equipment is selected based on whether we believe the rod or reel is worth owning, refurbishing and putting back into service.
That can include dependable everyday fishing equipment as well as older, discontinued or interesting models that still have plenty to offer an angler.
Selected One Piece at a Time
Goose Creek Rods isn’t a high-volume used tackle dealer.
Our refurbished inventory is intentionally small and changes as worthwhile equipment becomes available. Some weeks we may have several pieces available; other times, very little.
That’s okay.
We would rather offer a few pieces of equipment we believe in than fill a shelf with tackle we wouldn’t personally recommend.
