Goose Creek Rods is an appointment-only shop in Indian Trail, North Carolina, specializing in quick rod repairs, custom fishing rods, and vintage rod-and-reel restoration.

Most common rod repairs—such as a damaged tip or broken guide—are straightforward, affordable, and a good way to keep a favorite rod fishing for years to come.

Custom rods and vintage restorations are quoted individually because every project, component choice, and level of detail is different.

Reel service is limited to selected reels and is accepted by evaluation only.

Please contact us before bringing in equipment. Photos of the damage, the make/model, and a brief description of the issue are always helpful.

Quick Rod Repair Pricing

Most pricing below is for standard repairs using one-color thread and commonly stocked components. Special-order parts, multiple thread colors, trim bands, underwraps, decorative work, unusual guide styles, and extensive matching work are additional.

Tips and Guides

Service Labor / Starting Price Notes
Tip-top replacement $15 plus tip, or $20 minimum total Most common tips are normally in stock
Single-foot guide replacement $15 labor plus guide One-color wrap and finish
Double-foot guide replacement $17 labor plus guide One-color wrap and finish
Boat-rod, heavy-duty, roller, or specialty guide Starting at $20 plus guide Quoted after inspection
Three or more guide replacements Quoted by rod Pricing depends on guide style, wrap work, and condition
Trim bands Add $2 per guide Per guide, when requested
Underwraps Add $3 per guide Per guide, when needed
Multiple thread colors or detailed matching Quote required Best determined after seeing the rod

Minimum repair invoice: $20 per rod.

A guide replacement may look simple, but proper work includes safely removing the damaged guide, preparing the blank, aligning the replacement, wrapping it correctly, applying finish, and allowing adequate cure time. We aim for a clean, durable repair—not a rushed patch.

Rod Repair Turnaround

Simple rod repairs are normally completed in 3–5 business days, depending on workload, component availability, and finish-curing time.

Rush service may be available for a reasonable additional fee when the schedule allows. Please ask before dropping off the rod; rush work cannot be guaranteed.

Custom Fishing Rods

A custom rod is built around the way you fish: target species, lure or bait range, line type, reel, fishing location, preferred grip, guide layout, action, power, and appearance.

Custom Rod Labor

Service Labor
Custom freshwater or saltwater rod build Starting at $175 labor
Custom surf rod Starting at $175 labor
Specialty, offshore, decorative, or complex build Quote required
Rebuild an existing rod on a sound blank Starting at $125 labor

Components are priced separately. Goose Creek Rods uses quality blanks and components purchased through established suppliers, and component prices reflect the actual build selected.

Component costs are due before parts are ordered. Labor is due when the completed rod is picked up, unless other arrangements are made in writing.

For a custom-rod estimate, please provide the type of fishing you do, the species targeted, preferred rod length, reel model or size, line/lure range, and any color or component preferences.

Vintage Rod & Reel Restoration

Vintage restoration is one of the specialties at Goose Creek Rods.

We restore old fishing rods and selected reels for anglers, collectors, and families who want to preserve a meaningful piece of fishing history. Some customers want a light cleaning and stabilization; others want a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration.

Restoration Pricing

Service Starting Price
Vintage rod evaluation $25, credited toward approved restoration
Light vintage rod restoration Starting at $150
Complete vintage rod restoration Starting at $250
Vintage reel evaluation $50, credited toward approved service/restoration
Vintage reel restoration Quote required

Restoration pricing depends on condition, corrosion, missing or damaged components, parts availability, guide and wrap work, handle condition, decal preservation, desired authenticity, and the amount of cosmetic or mechanical work required.

A written estimate is provided before major restoration work begins. Restoration work requires approval and, in most cases, a deposit before work starts.

Select Reel Service

Goose Creek Rods accepts a limited number of selected reels for service. We focus on saltwater, vintage, collectible, premium, and mechanically worthwhile reels.

We do not operate as a high-volume reel-service shop, and we do not accept every reel brought in for repair.

Reel-Service Policy

Reels are accepted only after considering:

  • Brand, model, age, and overall condition

  • Corrosion and prior repair attempts

  • Availability of parts

  • Likely repair cost compared with replacement value

  • The amount of diagnostic work needed

  • Current shop workload

We generally do not accept freshwater spinning reels, spincast reels, fly reels, or low-cost reels where labor and parts would exceed the reel’s practical value.

Reel-Service Pricing

Service Starting Price
Reel inspection and diagnostic evaluation $25
Standard selected-reel service Starting at $50 labor
Live-liner, baitrunner, or more complex spinning reel Starting at $65 labor
Conventional reel service Starting at $75 labor
Vintage or collectible reel restoration Quote required
Parts, bearings, drag washers, and return shipping Additional

The $25 diagnostic evaluation is applied toward approved reel service. If a reel is declined, parts are unavailable, or repair is not economically practical, the evaluation fee covers the time spent inspecting and diagnosing the reel.

All reel-service prices are labor only unless specifically stated otherwise. Additional problems found after disassembly—such as corrosion, worn gears, damaged springs, missing parts, or previous improper repairs—may require a revised estimate and customer approval.

Important Policies

  • All work is by appointment.

  • Prices shown are starting prices unless otherwise noted.

  • Parts, special-order components, shipping, and applicable tax are additional.

  • Payment for ordered components is required before ordering.

  • Vintage restorations and extensive repairs may require a deposit.

  • Finished work must be picked up within 30 days unless other arrangements are made.

  • Goose Creek Rods will advise you honestly when a repair is not practical or cost-effective.
